First make sure that the chamber and magazine are empty.
Take the gun in the left hand, rest the stock on the leg and press the barrel downwards the overcome the strength of the recoil spring. With the right hand, unscrew the magazine cap at the front end of the fore-end (fig. 10). Allow the barrel and fore-end to move slowly forward by gradually releasing the hold of the left hand. Freeing of the barrel can be facilitated by slightly drawing back the bolt (particularly for 20 bore guns).
To reassemble, proceed in the opposite way, ensuring that the fore-end fits correctly in the action. The magazine cap being screwed on, there should be no play between the action and the fore-end.
