The Saiga-12 is a self-loading smooth bored shotgun intended for professional and sport hunting of small-and medium-size game. It is produced by Izmash in Izhevsk, Russia. It is chambered to accept 70 mm and 76 mm magnum rounds. The Saiga-12 is a semi-automatic gun with a gas-powered loading mechanism which is adjustable to match the parameters of the ballistics of standard and magnum cartridges. It has a sighting rib on the barrel, adjustable for windage and elevation. A variety of muzzle adapters and chokes are available to diversify the operational capabilities. The Saiga-12 is available with a quick-detachable butt and/or a quickly detachable pistol grip to make transportation and storage easier (Rcl. -4, HO -4 with the pistol grip instead of the butt-stock). The Saiga-12 is manufactured in four different versions: The Saiga-i2S differs from the standard Saiga-12 in the abovementioned folding butt-stock and pistol grip, the Saiga-i2K has a shorter barrel and a trigger/firing mechanism locking device to prevent the shotgun from firing when the butt is folded and the Saiga-i2S EXP-oi has the short barrel of the 12K but is not equipped with a trigger/firing mechanism locking device and sports a rail for optical-sight mount accommodation atop the receiver. The Saiga-12 is also available in 20 gauge and .410 caliber (both Dmg. 4d and Rcl. -1).
