d. THE HORIZONTAL LOG OR BOARD TECHNIQUE (Figure 5). This technique it used with the bipod or tripod mounted machinegun to mark lector limits and provide sector of graze fire. The horizontal log or board technique is effective in all conditions of visibility. The following procedures are used:

(I] THE BIPOD MOUNTED GUN. Place a log or board beneath the stock of the weapon ir, such a way that the stock can slide across it freely.

Dig shallow trenches or grooves for the bipod feet to allow rotation of the feet ai the stock >s moved along the horizontal log or board. Adjust the bipod legs to the desired elevation. The sector limits may be marked by notching or placing ¿top* on the horizontal log or board. Bipod firing position md grip are used.

(Si THE TRIPOD MOUNTED GUN. Place a log or board beneath the barrel of the weapon- The log or board should be positioned in tuch a way that the barrel, when resting on :he log, will be at the proper elevation to obtain sector o£ graxe fire. The limita of sector are marked, when appropriate* as discussed in (!) above.
