Some ammunition manufacturers have devised bullets for target shooting that disintegrate upon striking a hard surface. The Remington Co. demonstrated that this breakup into a fine powder does not occur (at least, not with their product-the „Kantsplash" bullet) when the bullet strikes flesh, although it does occur upon striking bones. This being the case, such bullets fired from a rifled arm should be identifiable if recovered from the fleshy part of a body, provided there has been no impact with bone material. This type of bullet is not likely to be used by a person intending to commit a crime, but they could be encountered in accidental shootings, especially in target practice by persons who have not been properly tutored in the handling of firearms.
