Inspection

1. DETERMINE HOW MANY ROUNDS HAVE BEEN FIRED (USE DA FORM 2408-4).

a. Standard Gun Only: The breech assembly for the Standard M242 gun (PN 12524370) shall be inspected at 12,500 rounds, and every 2,500 rounds thereafter. This breech assembly shall be replaced at 25,000 rounds regardless of visual condition.

b. Enhanced Gun Only: The breech assembly for the Enhanced M242 gun (PN 12524527) shall be inspected at 25,000 rounds, and every 5,000 rounds thereafter. There is no round count limit where this breech assembly must be replaced.

2. INSPECT BREECH ASSEMBLY.

a. Visually inspect breech using a magnifying glass. Inspect breech for cracks and breaks while paying close attention to areas (1) and (2) in figure. If any cracks are found, replace breech assembly.

b. Visually inspect spring pin (3) to determine if it is loose, missing, or damaged. If any of these conditions are found, replace spring pin.

c. Visually inspect to ensure guide pin (4) is present. It is acceptable for the guide pin to be loose, but care must be taken to ensure guide pin is installed when breech is installed in receiver.

d. Visually inspect lugs (5) for burrs. Use abrasive cloth to remove burrs and rough edges.
