Annular ball bearing may have remained in mechanical housing during removal.

e. If annular ball bearing (4) remains in mechanical housing, use inside bearing puller to remove it, or tap the housing on a table to remove the bearing.

f. Visually inspect annular ball bearing (4) on spur gear cluster (1) for any breaks, cracks, or bends. Check movement of annular ball bearing for binding. If any of these conditions are found, complete steps g through i.

g. Open vise with jaw caps to an opening 1/2 in. (12.7 mm) wider than the annular ball bearing (4) on spur gear cluster (1). Rest spur gear cluster (1) on top of vise jaws with annular ball bearing (4) at bottom between jaws as shown. Allow at least 1/4 in. (6.4 mm) clearance between sides of annular ball bearing (4) and vise jaws.

h. Tap annular ball bearing (4) on bearing race with drive pin punch. Tap lightly on both sides of race until annular ball bearing (4) is free.

i. Remove and discard annular ball bearing.
