Note

Tap side of housing assembly cap during this procedure to remove air bubbles. Hold recoil damper rod with one hand to keep rod position mark in place during steps a through d. If damper rod tool is used, damper rod does not need to be held.

Graphics are provided to show procedure being done with and without using damper rod tool.

a. Remove loosely installed damper housing plug (25).

b. Fill damper reservoir with clean damper fluid until fluid comes from filler hole (26).

c. Wipe clean and insert the nonflux end of a 1/8 in. x 12 in. (3 mm x 300 mm) welding rod into filler hole (26) and through a flange hole in recoil damper rod (5).

d. While holding recoil damper rod (5) with one hand, gently push down on 1/8 in. x 12 in. (3 mm x 300 mm) welding rod approximately 1/2 in. (12.7 mm). Hold for 30 seconds to allow fluid to flow into reservoir.
