Obey all safety rules, regulations, and orders when handling or working with guns.
Do not touch electrical conductors. Serious injury or death may occur if extreme care is not used.
Never remove barrel assembly with live ammo in the gun.
Gun barrels get very hot and stay hot for a long time after firing. Touching hot gun barrels and parts will cause serious flesh burns. Heat mittens must be worn to prevent burns.
Gun assemblies are heavy. Gun receiver weighs approximately 41.7 kg (92 lb). Gun barrel weighs approximately 40.4 kg (89 lb). Two people are needed to lift each of these heavy assemblies.
Working with lockwire is dangerous and can cause serious injuries. Use eye protection. Control both ends of wire at all times. Hold free ends of wire when cutting to prevent flying pieces.
Wear eye protection when cutting lockwire. You can be blinded if lockwire hits you in the eye.
During inspection of auto gun receiver, be sure barrel chamber, breech assembly, bolt, and automatic gun feeder are clear of ammunition.
Dry cleaning solvent (SD) is flammable and toxic. Use in well-ventilated area away from an open flame or a smoking area. This solvent evaporates quickly and has a drying effect on the skin. It may cause cracks in the skin and, in some cases, mild irritation or inflammation. If solvent comes in contact with eyes or skin, flush with water.
Do not wear jewelry when working on the gun. Serious injury or death may occur. Keep fingers away from moving parts of gun. Serious injury or death may occur.
Wear eye protection when removing or installing retaining rings. Retaining rings are under spring tension. Personnel can be blinded if struck in the eye by flying retaining rings.
Failure to replace the breech assembly and the firing pin at the specified intervals may result in explosion or unexpected firing of the gun. Serious injury or death to personnel and damage to equipment may result.
Do not pull breech assembly more than 8 in. (203.2 mm) out of auto gun receiver when removing barrel support assembly.
If auto gun receiver is left unattended or will be moved, reinstall machine key to prevent breech from falling out.
Serious injury can result if fingers or hands are caught between roller chain assembly and drive or idler sprocket wheels.
Wear eye protection when using compressed air. Compressed air used for cleaning purposes shall not exceed 30 psi (206.85 kPa).
Wear eye protection when removing or installing spring pins. Personnel can be blinded if struck in the eye by flying springs.
Wear eye protection when using striking instruments. Personnel can be blinded if struck in the eye by flying chips.
