Freezing rain and other types of precipitation may make the rifle difficult to handle, foul the rifle and cause stoppages, or build up in the barrel or compensator and cause erratic shots. Care should be taken to keep the barrel and muzzle free of water. If the rifle has been submerged, ensure the bore is drained before firing. To drain the bore, pull the charging handle slightly to the rear and hold for a few seconds while the muzzle points down. Once the barrel has been drained, turn the rifle muzzle up to allow the water to drain out of the stock.
