Sierra's renowned BTHP MatchKing bullet.

132 IHK ULTlMATb SXIPbR

within 2/10 of a grain, and jacket wall concentricity has a fine .0003 of an inch maximum tolerance.

Brown helped me put to rest one myth about this bullet. "'The hollowpoint design is a byproduct of our production process, not for expansion upon impact," he said. Formed jackets are fitted into a precision die upside down; the lead is pressed in at a carefully controlled rate until all but an exact, small space in the tip is filled. Now, in order to extract the finished bullet from this tight die, a thin, wirelike punch is pushed through, right into a narrow hole left in the tip for this purpose. Out pops the bullet, which now has a tiny hole and slight unfilled space in the tip.

This is not a true hollowpoint; indeed, it tends to break or bend upon impact, not expand in any traditional sense. As an added benefit, this design "eliminates any point deformation in flight," according to Sierra.

Match bullets also are manufactured by Hornady, Speer, Lapua, and Nosier. Lapua uses superb Scenar 168-grain hollowpoints or 170-grain FMJ BT bullets in its .308 Match rounds. Quality is the byword in all these bullets and cartridges.
