Special Purpose Ammunition types

Splat multipurpose ammunition (synthetic plastic loaded ammunition for training) uses a metal-filled plastic material which is injection-molded into the shape of a bullet. The bullets are much lighter than conventional equivalents and consequently achieve much higher velocities. They are frangible on impact and virtually eliminate overpenetration and ricochet hazards. Splat ammunition is available in a range of calibers and the mass, velocity, and frangibility of the bullets can be varied to suit the intended purpose. The .38 Special caliber aircraft load is designed to safeguard against perforation of aircraft windows and body panels while engaging hijackers and other rounds are designed to penetrate car bodywork and injure the occupants. Effect of Water on FDR

Numerous lead, antimony particles were detected accompanied by copper, zinc particles, iron particles, and lead-only particles. The lead, antimony copper, zinc and lead-only particles, probably originated from the bullets and the iron particles probably originated from the car bodywork. No unique FDR particles or other FDR particle types were detected.

Surface Coatings

After phosphatizing some firearms are then oil-coated to provide extra protection against corrosion. Other protective coatings applied over the phosphate coating include electrostatic spray painting, epoxy, zinc chromate, and Teflon. When the coating includes molybdenum disulfide or fluorocar-bons such as Teflon, there is the added advantage of reduced friction between moving parts.


But even if your scope has a high-gloss finish, you can just wrap tape and camouflage cloth around it and that will eliminate reflection. Or, better yet, spray paint your scope and rifle to fit the coloration in your area of operations. Just be sure to tape the dials and witness marks and cover the lenses.

The completed unit can be painted with conventional spray paint or MG Coat (see article elsewhere in this issue). If the unit will be used extensively, it will get quite hot.
